Addison is a small village in Lenawee County, according to the 2000 census it has 627 residents which is about the same as it was in the 1860s. Addison is located between Rollin and Woodstock Townships. Addison is a small area and encompasses one square mile and is named after Addison J. Comstock, originally from Adrian, Michigan, who purchased large amount of land in the mid 19th century. Addison is close to Manitou Beach, Devils Lake, Round Lake, and Lombard Lake.
Adrian, also known as "the Maple City," is located in Lenawee County. About 30 miles southwest of Ann Arbor, Adrian is home to Adrian College, Siena Heights University, and Jackson Community College. Residents of Adrian have easy access to many recreational activities and areas such as Devils Lake, Round Lake, Wamplers Lake and the Michigan International Speedway. Nearby townships are Dover Township, Adrian Township, and Palmyra Township.
Albion, Michigan, sometimes known as “The Forks” because of its location to the north and south branches of the Kalamazoo River, is a city in Calhoun County with a population of more than 9,100 people according to the 2000 census. Albion is home to Albion College, established in 1835. Albion is also home to the Festival of the Forks. Areas close to Albion include: Concord, Homer, Marshall, Springport, and Jackson.
Ann Arbor is in Washtenaw County; it is the fifth-largest city in the state of Michigan with more than 114,000 residents during the 2000 census. The University of Michigan, a Big Ten Conference member, calls Ann Arbor its home and is a significant employer in Ann Arbor. Ann Arbor is the center for a number of museums and and performing arts venues. "The Ride," Ann Arbor's public transportation authority, operates throughout the city as well as in Ypsilanti. Ann Arbor is easily accessed by three major freeways that surround it: I-94, US 23, and M-14. These accessible roads make it easy to go to nearby Barton Hills, Dexter, Saline, Whitemore Lake, and Ypsilanti.
Belleville, Michigan is a small city in Wayne County with a population just shy of 4,000 according to the 2000 census. Edison Lake, sometimes known as Belleville Lake, was created by two dams on the Huron River which flows into Lake Erie. Belleville is sometimes called the birthplace of techno music, holds an annual Strawberry Festival, and is home of the Belleville High School Marching Band. The Belleville High School Marching Band is one of the largest in the country and is well-recognized. Belleville Highschool is part of the Van Buren Public Schools District which is also comprised of six elementary school, two middle schools and one alternative school. Belleville is about 15 miles southeast of Ann Arbor and is located nearly equidistant between Romulus and Ypsilanti.
Blissfield is a village in Lenawee County, Michigan, a county on the very southern edge of Michigan’s lower peninsula. According to the 2000 census, Blissfield has a population of approximately 3,200 people. The River Raisin snakes through Blissfield and inspires the annual River Raisin Festival. Blissfield’s downtown area is known for antiquing. Blissfield Township is bordered by Palmyra, Ogden, and Riga Townships; Blissfield is close to Adrian, Dundee and Lambertville.
Brighton, Michigan is less than an hour away from Detroit and less than half an hour away from Ann Arbor. Brighton, a city in Livingston County, has a population of approximately 6,700 people according to the 2000 census. Brighton is home to two large shopping malls; Green Oak Village Place, a lifestyle center area on the eastern edge, and traditional Brighton Mall on the western side of town. Students in Brighton are serviced by the Brighton Areas School System. Brighton Areas School System also services, in all or part: Pinckney Village, Howell Township, Hamburg Township, Green Oak Township, Genoa Township, Brighton Township, Howell, and South Lyon.
Lenawee County, Michigan has several villages within its boundary lines, including the village of Britton. Britton, a village of approximately 700 residents occupies .9 square miles and is 9 miles northeast of Adrian, Michigan. Britton is served by the Britton-Macon Area School District, which also services Macon and Ridgeway Townships with one building for students in K-12.
Brooklyn, Michigan is a small village in Jackson County with a population of almost 1,200 residents according to the 2000 census. Brooklyn occupies one square mile and is part of the area known as the Irish Hills, named for early Irish settlers as well as its scenic rolling hills and numerous lakes. Brooklyn is close to Shamrock Field, Norvell Township, Napoleon, and Columbia Township.
A charter township, Canton is on the western edge of Wayne County, Michigan. According to 2008 estimates, Canton has a population of over 82,000 people. Named for the city of Canton in China, the Michigan Canton is one of Michigan’s fastest growing communities. Canton is serviced by four districts: Plymouth-Canton Community Schools, Wayne-Westland Schools, and Van Buren Schools. Canton is about 20 minutes east of Ann Arbor, and about a half hour west of Detroit. Canton is also near Livonia, Westland, Romulus, Bellville, and Ypsilanti.
Carleton, Michigan is a village in Monroe County. Carleton is part of Ash Township. According to the 2000 census, Carleton has almost 2,600 residents. Carleton is an agricultural community and is close to Exeter Township, Maybee, Willis, Flatrock, and Rockwood.
Chelsea is a small city in Washtenaw County. As of the 2000 census it had just under 4,400 residents. Chelsea has not long been a city; prior to March of 2004 it was a village. With the municipal status change, residents no longer pay property taxes to nearby townships and Chelsea residents now have their own city services. Chelsea is home to The Purple Rose Theater and the annual Chelsea Community Fair. Chelsea is near Dexter, Grass Lake, Stockbridge, and Pinckney.
Clayton, a village of approximately 325 according to the 2000 census, is located in Lenawee County, Michigan. The village of Clayton resides in two townships; Hudson Township and Dover Township. Clayton is close to Lenawee County Airport, Adrian, Devils Lake, and Lake Hudson State Recreation Area.
Clinton, Michigan is a village in Lenawee County; according to the 2000 census Clinton has just shy of 2,300 residents. The village of Clinton occupies 1.5 square miles and is serviced by Clinton Community Schools. Clinton is on the southern border of Michigan, nearly adjacent to the Ohio border and is about an hour southwest of Detroit. Clinton is relatively close to Ann Arbor, Jackson, and Adrian.
According to the 2000 census, Dexter, a village in Washtenaw County, Michigan has a population of approximately 2,300 people. The village of Dexter occupies parts of Scio and Webster Townships. The Huron River passes through Dexter on its way to Lake Erie. Dexter is home of Cornerstone Elementary Schools, Bates Elementary School, Wylie Elementary School, Creekside Intermediate School, Mill Creek Middle School and Dexter High School. Dexter is about 11 miles northwest of Ann Arbor, is close to Dexter Township, Chelsea, Lima Township, Barton Hills, and Pinckney State Recreation Area.
Located in Monroe County, Dundee is a village of approximately 3,500 people, according to the 2000 census. The village of Dundee is within Dundee Township and bother are served by Dundee Community Schools. Downtown Dundee has a historic district known as the “Triangle District” or Memorial Park. Memorial Park is close to the River Raisin. Dundee is about 24 miles south of Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti.
Jackson is the county seat of Jackson County, and about 40 miles west of Ann Arbor. Originally a major railway hub, Jackson is known as the crossroads of Michigan. Jackson is about 18 miles from Michigan International Speedway where fans can enjoy motorsport racing. Jackson has 65 spring-fed lakes. As of the 2000 census it had about 36,000 residents. Jackson is home to to the international headquarters of CMS Energy, which is one of the largest private employers in the city. Surrounding townships include: Blackman Charter Township, Spring Arbor Township, Summit Township, and Leoni Township.
Located withing Monroe County, Monroe sits on the shores of Lake Erie and provides its residents easy access to three major metropolitan areas: Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Toledo. At the 2000 census it had just over 22,000 residents. Monroe was named for President James Monroe and has a few ties to historical people and events, including General George Armstrong Custer and the Battle of Frenchtown. Monroe is also the home of La-Z-Boy and the only Michigan port on Lake Erie, the Port of Monroe. The city of Monroe has one large public school district with about 6,700 attendees.
Tecumseh is a small city in Lenawee County with a population of about 8,500 people at the 2000 census. Downtown Tecumseh has a unique blend of historical buildings and entrepreneurial businesses. It is only 20 miles south-southwest of Ann Arbor and is also an easy distance to Toledo, Ohio. Tecumseh borders: Raisin Township, Franklin Township, Ridgeway Township, and Macon Township.
